Best Salt for Kalk Drip Users?
Seen some results rescently of Salt Mfg. test results and wondering if one mfg salt "In general" is better for reefers using Kalk only to maintain Alk and Calcium.
It appears that Tropin Marin Pro has a high Mag which is the limiting element with dripping Kalk. I've used Instant Ocean for years but my Mag is always low, as well as Calcium.. Will switching to Pro help? Thanks, Jim |

Switching to a high-magnesium salt would reduce the need to supplement. I just bought some Mag Flake and add magnesium as needed. I don't think that any salt product is any more suited to lime than another, in general.

These were the results BillyBeau posted in a thread
Calcium Alk Mag Instant Ocean 350 12 1070 Coralife 560 9 1380 Oceanic 580 8.5 1650 Aquatic Gardens (Petco) 430 8 1240 Red Sea 400 8 1300 Seachem Reef Salt 540 10 1450 Kent 540 11 1200 Tropic Marin 375 10 1230 Tropic Marine Pro Reef 450 8.5 1380 Reef Crystals (used to be) 420 12 1260 When i read the Instant Ocean numbers they pretty much match my test results. Looks like switching to the Hingher Calcium and Mag brands may be the ticket for us Mrs. Wages Kalk drippers... Thanks, Jim |

Dosing magnesium is easy an easy and infrequnet task.
Having said that I use Coralife salt and have for five years. I drip all top off with saturated limewater and use a calcium reactor 24/7(the media does not include dolmite) and magnesium holds quite well with minamal dosing evry few months.
