frogspawn coral
Hi. I just bought a frogspawn coral the other day from a store who really looks like they know what they're talking about and very informative. I asked about calcium and trace elements and stuff like that but they said i didnt need any of that yet. By the way I'm just starting in with corals and the frogspawn is my second coral after my star polyp. (both doing well)
-Should i not be using calcium yet?

Frogspawn, hammer, and torch need moderate water flow and moderate light.
A 10% water change every couple of weeks should be all that is necessary for your frog. A good rule of thumb is to not dose anything that you don't test for. My hammer has gone from one head to 16 in a 7 gallon tank and I've never dosed anything...just water changes. |

Your calcium levels should be maintained in the 425-450ppm range. For me, with live rock, a small rose coral, and a frogspawn, I dose with kalkwasser every day. You will need to get a calcium and an alkalinity test kit to determine your tank's calcium needs.

Lately I've been doing a 5 gallon water change per week... My entire plan consists of having
-red mushrooms -bluemushrooms -frogspawn -star polyp -zoanthid or polyp rock -tube coral/sun coral -2 or 3 ricordeas -thats my entire plan for the tank with corals (75 gal. tank)

I wouldn't dose anything Mappel.
Here's my 7g from two years ago. I don't dose anything and just do water changes. The hammer in the middle is now about 16 heads, the BTA has split. Your list is pretty simple stuff except for the sun coral. They're beautiful, but a pia if you ask me Last edited by sjediets; 07/25/2007 at 08:54 PM. |

thats a beautiful tank--I'm only lookin for easy corals and not to overflow it with corals, just to spice things up and give the tank a colorful look

I would feed my frogspwn some of the frozen food I would feed my fish. I would squirt some on the heads. Grew so big I ended up getting rid of it. Out grew my tank, starting stinging other corals.
Sun Coral...beautiful if you are willing to commit the time it takes to feed each head to ensure a healthy speciman that will extend always. I used to take mine out of the tank to feed, for me much easier than fighting the fish and cleaner shrimp.
