Alternatives to egg crate?
I have egg crate as my top, but have a firefish that I'm afraid will eventually jump out. What kind of screen are people using that doesn't cut down on light penetration too much? Anyone have any links or a description of what I could look for?

There have been a lot of threads in the DIY about people using painted aluminum window screen kits with either clear or black 1/4-1/2" plastic netting. I believe its called bird netting at lowes or home depot, and is black. Clear stuff can be ordered online but is much much more expensive. And from what I have read neither blocks any significant amount of light so the cheaper stuff would be the way I would go. Then just assemble the screen kit like you would for a window with the netting in place of the screen material.

Buy a canopy for the top. Not cheap but there is no worry.

The 'clear mesh top' method in the link above is about the best alternative you'll find.
