Does anybody know at what age banggai's become sexualy active, or the approximate age one could expect them to start reproducing? Thanks in advance.

Hi Gary. Check with ri.... I think he has a juvenile that's already holding eggs. Guy might have an idea, too.

I have a "baby" Banggai, born January 15, 2004 holding a mouthful. Not sure which Banggai is the female... could be from babies born March 23, 2003 or maybe born the same day as the male.

Typically it's about 9 months. I've had them breed as young as 5 months though. I believe it's dependent on size aka food.

He's an exception... a Banggai less than 1.5" holding a clutch of eggs:

In both cases the fish holding the eggs is a small male. I wonder if he was actually involved in the mating, or possibly just a surrogate?

The fish in the picture was still in the grow-out tank with all his siblings. There were no older fish in with him. It was quite the surprise.
