High bioload, succesful SPS reefs, any one else?

It seems as though the trend is to keep a very low bioload in SPS dominant tanks these days. Is any one else going against the grain and keeping a high bioload?

mine...

180 SPS dominant reef.

1 - Sohol tang
1 - RS sailfin tang
1 - Purple tang
1 - Sixline wrasse
1 - Yellow Coris wrasse
1 - Copperband Butterfly
2 - Black Saddleback clownfish
2 - Dispar Anthias
4 - Bartlett Anthias

So, let's have it, who has them and lets see them.

Why, thank you. It has grown a bit since that pic was taken. It is about 18" in diameter now.

full room

A few excuses:
I had a heater malfunction that browned out/killed alot of corals. I also lost some corals to excessive photo period when I went BB. I still need to paint the back!

xm 250w 10k's only on for 4 hours per day under the center brace with a piece of plexi on it. If I bump it to 5 hours it bleaches. I feel like I could keep that coral in the dark. In the 125 DSB was was on the bottom but with a 8 hour photo period, do figure.

The controller was the issue, the old tank was 12" from the new one. When I built the stand I yanked out the probe.

with only 4 hours do your other corals get enough light too?

I have a 180 that has had this fish
list in it for over three years. Some
of the fish I have had over five years.
Just running a refugium no skimmer
or anything else. 15 to 20 gallon water
changes every three to four months.
I have a mixed reef with acroporas and
other sps, lps, leathers and clams,
corals are all doing great.
2 clowns
1 blond naso
1 hippo tang
1 yellow tang
3 purple tangs
1 blue throat trigger
1 coral beauty
1 fox face
1 six line wrasse
1 Bicolor Pseudochromis
1 Royal Gramma
1 canary goby
1 yellow tail damsel
4 cleaner neon gobies

My tank has a 1" thick 3" wide center brace in the middle. Right over that coral. The acros did seem to color up a little better with the 5 hour period, so I may get some tinted plexi for over the big monti and bump it back to 5 hours. But to tell you the thruth I am no sure if it was just me or not. A couple acros are really growing like weeds!

Funny I've been looking at the reeflux bulbs but I have mag ballasts and the par aint so hot. As far as your monti I would move it down for a while, or start with your lights a little higher. If the corals start to brown you can alway increase intensity, but its better than bleaching or worse STN. Small changes in lighting can have big effects!
