i think i found the skimmer im going to get... a little help please.
http://www.proteinskimmer.com/products/Urchin.htm
i really like the idea of having it in sump, i wanna make sure i can fit it in there with all of my other stuff. if i cant, im going to do the hang on back version with the same company. both of these skimmers are rated 30-75 gallons with a rio 800. could i put a rio 400 or a rio 600 on it to reduce the amount of water its given to skim on an hourly basis? will the skimmer still work properyly? (i know its going to skim less, and thats what i want.) |

Hello, I don't recommend the urchin. They do work but not as good as needle wheel skimmers for the same price. I have one sitting in the closet I used on a 55 gallon with a 15 gallon sump. This is the skimmer I replaced my urchin with.

I wasn't impressed with my urchin at all on my 55. Wish I had never bought it.

I think you'll find that most folks either love AquaC products or they hate them. I'm not a fan of their products, but their customer service is spectacular. If you don't want the most efficient skimmer, then the AquaC Urchin is probably going to suit you fine.

I would go with a maxi jet 1200 if you decide to by the urchin. Rio's tend to burn up pretty quick.
