Source for cultured octopus?

1. Is there a source for cultured octopuses out there since octopets went out of business?

2. If not, where is the best place to get a wild caught octopus? Preferably a bimac.

1) Not regularly. However at the moment there's a hobbyist with some available.

I have some eggs that will be hatching soon, but I do not like to ship them until they are a month or two old.

I can ship anywhere in the U.S., You can't pick it up mainly because I live on an island, but I could drop it off somewhere or meet you if you are close by (Los Angeles area)

How soon do you think they'll be ready to go--one month? Two? How much do you sell them for? I'd be happy to drive down and meet you whenthe time comes--less stress for the octo!

All the hatchlings/eggs died while I was away last weekend due to tank problems. I do not have anymore eggs at the moment but will post when I get more.

The ones right now are from wild caught parents, I have some juv. octo's from a previous spawn that I'll try to breed when they get bigger.

I'm sure being marinebio_guy you'll be keeping track of how successfully you are able to raise the offspring of your captive bread octo's. Will be interesting to see your numbers, as many people have reported in the past that the number that will make it to maturity will be much lower then those offspring from the wild caught parents.

Percent survival depends mostly on how they are raised not if they are wild caught or captive raised although there might be a small differnence. I've been able to get ~90% survival before and its just a matter of how they are cared for.

Perhaps were ever I saw that info in the past didn't take into account that many times hobbyist are trying with captive bread and marine biologist and those experienced in aquaculture were more likely to use wild caught.

I can't say for octopus but for cuttlefish you do not start seeing a significant survival rate change until about the 3-4 captive breed generation. On a side note there is very very few people that have breed ocotpus for the aquarium trade for more than one generation most are from wild caught parents that laid eggs in captivity.
