BROWN slime alge
Why do I have "brown" not red slime alge? Tanks been on line for 2 years. I have NEW lights and just replaced my RO unit! What is this stuff? Looks like red slime, but its BROWN! It grows like wildfire!!!!!

Cyanobacteria doesn't always look red. Also, the new lights may just be giving it a different "tint".

Post a pic. Hard to guess without more info. I know new lights cannot sometimes cause an increase in algae growth. How are the water parameters? Could be a diatom outbreak?

I'm having the same problem.
The only thing the chemi-clean seems to kill at this point are my Xenias. Because of this, I've given up and am just seeing how long and how bad it can get. Surprisingly in all this, all my corals are doing great except for my polyps. They've not opened in a long time. It's pretty bad .. but how long can bad last? I've tested everything. Zero nitrites, nitrates, ammonia, phosphorous. You name it. I use a 5 stage filter system for top off water. Everything was great for a while after the tank was about 8 months old. Now we're at a year and it pretty much is terrible.
