That's great your dad had a 90th BD party!!
I'm sorry about the isopod too. I've only seen the one so far. I am praying hard it was just a stray straggler and there aren't any more in the tank, but I am not going to rule anything out yet. Look how long it took me to spot this one! I will continue to look for them for the next 2 months faithfully. If I don't spot any more by then, then I think I will be safe.

What you are describing, if it looks similar to these photos, it is a "boxing crab" - Lybia tessellata. The two "fans" are small anemones. They wave them around defensively. When they molt, they will put them down somewhere safe and then come back to them when their exoskeleton is hard again. I am pretty sure they are reef safe. These are rarely available to buy - what did it hitchhike on?

Does bob have TBS? This is more of an Indian Ocean species. This fits what he is describing though - not sure if there is a Caribbean species.

The crab poormedstudent posted is what is called a "Pom-Pom" or "Boxer" crab. Very cool crab. I almost got one about 2 months ago, but we couldn't catch it and gave up. They actually hold little anemone's in their front claws for protection.
The bottom pic looks like it's carrying eggs. |

Here is a porcelain with his "fans" waving - and he is hanging upside down as well. We may have a winner!
