custom hood?

I have a tank that is 37 3/4" by 19 3/4" do I need a custom hood? Where do I get one if those?

If you want a canopy that sits on the top of the aquarium like a cap then yes that would be a custom job (I think). You can probably find a local reefer with enough wood working skills to do the job if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. If you want a pendant style light system that hangs above the aquarium then you have many ready to use options.

I started to research some people have open tanks with what you call pendent lighting. Is it a problem that fish might jump out without a closed cover?

Some fish are more prone to jumping than others. I have always used a hanging type canopy with an open top aquarium.
