Phyto getter lighter not darker

I started a phyto culture last thursday. I had an old orange juice container. I rinsed it out with hot tap water and let it dry. I had used live phyto from an LFS (they culture it). I added the phyto to the bottle topped it off with saltwater from my mixing container. I then added the algae grow according to the instructions. I have had it on a 16 hour light cycle 7:30 - 11:30 using 2 20W florecent tubes.

I checked it yesterday and it seems to be getting lighter not darker. There is no settleing of phyto in the bottom. I can see the water moving around because of the bubbles.

So my assumption is that something was not sterile enough and their are bugs having a buffet in my phyto culture.

I would expect if the phyto were to die it would collect at the bottom of the container.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It may or may not have crashed. I've had a culture or two do this and about the 4-5 day mark take off. But your chances are it did crash. What strain are you cultureing? salinity?

Ohh yeah, if your culture was to crash most likely it wouldnt settle on the bottom. Your culture would turn a yellowish color. If its still green or has a green hue to it leave it alone for a few more days. check melev site, he has a great phyto write up and pictures of live phyto and a crashed culture.

I don't know what strain I used. It was whatever the LFS had. I can find out tomorrow.
