spitting Bristleworms

I was watching my new starfish move across the rocks when I noticed a bristleworm take a bite out of it. I got angry grabed some tweesers and tried to get it out, but only got a peace of it.
About a minute later a worm on the other side of the tank stuck up in the water off the rock and spit this milky white stuff into the tank. After that it seemed that all the worms were spitting white and reddish orange stuff in the water. When I saw this I started to catch as many as I could. The milky stuff doesn't seem to be hurting anything in my tank, but does anyone know what it is?

Yup. They are spawning. Watch your skimmer, it may go wild.
