blue, but you can't ignore the league's culpability in this. They only began to act after the public got so upset. I'm upset about the integrity of the game, and to wait and see how the public goes is an offense in and of itself.

More people are to blame than Bonds. I don't think it was some covert operation and Bud Selig said "What? Balco? Never heard of them." when the reports were first published.

And yes. There are awesome players who don't take steroids that keep the game interesting and alive. To whit, Brian Roberts, Jeremy Guthrie, Erik Bedard, Nick Markakis, Miguel Tejada, Melvin Mora, Kevin Millar, and Aubrey Huff to name a few.

I don't know if Bonds will get in on the first ballot.

All said, he was a good fielder, too... Drugs don't help with that.

What really sucks about all this is that Bonds probably would have had an extremely memorable career without taking drugs. No one would be discussing whether or not he deserves his records if he would have just worked hard and kept at it. He's a good hitter and fielder. Isn't it enough to be really good at a sport that makes you a millionaire?

Shucks, man.

Still the best all around baseball player to play the game and he was already that before the roid accusations!
And if he was on roids, he sure isn't now or in the last 3yrs and still the most feared hitter in baseball!

Not sure if you guys have noticed it but Aaron was thin too when he started and was very portly toward the end of his career.

ENOUGH SAID!!

Best all around? I doubt it. A good player? Sure. That's our point-- he didn't need to take steroids. He was a great player headed for a great career. That integrity is gone now thanks to this steroid mess.

As for body shape...

Portly is not head circumference. Portly doesn't include muscle mass. After 4.5 years of marriage, I'm starting to get portly. Strangely my bony girl arms remain the same size whilst my waste expands at a rate of about an inch per year. Keep this up and I'll be the spitting image of my old man. This sort of thing isn't what's going on with Bonds. Bonds is showing evidence of taking performance enhancing drugs, not growing with age.

Wow its called Hank got a little chubby during the later years, unlike bonds who has gained a ton of muscle. Enough Said. How many home runs was he hitting three years ago? How many has he been hitting the past couple seasons?

BC - it cracks me up that you can be so adamantly against someone who was playing within the rules of his sport (right or wrong) but yet you think that Mike Vick is a saint.

Sorry - but you've got no credibility in this argument.

beerguy, why do you keep referring to Bonds as playing within the 'rules'? Is it just how you interpret the way the MLB brass handled the steroids usage?

I never said Vick is a saint, i just said wait till its all said and done. In this case we know for a fact he has been on roids. And no its not the rules of baseball to take roids, if it were everyone would be doing it.

They not only didn't ban their use until very late, they consistently turned a blind eye to it because McGwire, Sosa and all the rest were filling seats in a period when they were hurting for attendance.

Ah.

I disagree that those are 'rules,' but for all intents and purposes I suppose it carries the same weight...

This whole thing is a sham, a travesty, and a mockery. It's a trav-sham-ockery.

Show me where in the rules of baseball where it states that its ok to use steroids. Then you might have an arguement but until then iam sorry but you dont have an arguement.

...

ugh...

This isn't that complicated.

The league has a stake in this. It's very likely that they are just as observant as the rest of us and noticed that guys like Palmeiro and Bonds used to be extremely skinny and had slow bat speeds and then progressively got better. It's naive to think they didn't draw the same conclusion that the rest of us are drawing-- steroids was rampant in baseball. BUT, since Sosa and McGwire were filling the stands with home run derby games, the league didn't do much to stop it. They were suffering financially from the strike and wanted to fill the stands.

When they did nothing, they became just as guilty. It's like approving their use if you don't take a stand against them. That's why beerguy says 'rules.'

I don't agree with his choice of words, but if you look past his words to get at what he means then it makes sense.

Rules are printed out in black and white. 3 strikes you out, 3 outs the inning is over, etc, etc. No where in the rules of baseball does it state take steroids to make your game better. Enough Said.

GSMguy: Is that a trick question? I mean, he's still playing, right? The league doesn't request you to not play... They ban you from the league. Why do you ask?

By the way, given Mrs. Sixline's mitigated aversion to baseball, I can't say with any real conviction that she approves these posts.

Vick- There is doubt to whether or not he is guilty.

Barry Bonds- There is no doubt to whether or not he is guilty, he is GUILTY.
