A bit counterproductive perhaps....
But I need to remove several clumps of star polyps that are overtaking the base of some large gorgs I am keeping.
The rocks are quite porous so scraping and scrubbing has not proven effective. Anyone know if kalk paste placed on the section of the colony I want to remove will do the trick? Many thanks, Brett |

Possibly... GSP's are tough stuff. Joe's Juice has been getting good reviews from people, and apparently kills just about everything, but I can't say for certain I've heard of it working on GSP's (nor have I tried it myself).

Well, I guess I don't have anything to lose by giving it a try.
Many thanks Brett |

Brett, I have used kalk paste with mixed results. The problem is getting it to burn everything, not just where it settles. Multiple tries will get it done if you have time.

Guess I kinda lost track of how fast they were growing. At first I thought it was nice that they were filling in all the "inbetween" areas... until they started overtaking my gorgs and began climbing up the holdfasts. Then it stopped being quite so cool. Thanks everyone. Brett |

Well, I actually have some pretty good results to report. I zapped 2 seperate areas about 1 1/2" each. Initially, once the paste had dissipated, I was still left with a closed up mat of polyps, but over the course of the week the tissue just slowly disintegrated until there was nothing but bare rock left.
Only probs I encountered were my fish stirring the stuff up as they moved around the tank - so I defintely advise doing something like this at night when activity is decreased. I did get kinda nervous when I noticed my serpent star crawl right thru the middle of a patch and take some of it with him on the tips of his arms but so far he seems no worse for wear. Appreciate everyone's help. Brett Last edited by Putawaywet; 08/27/2004 at 06:15 PM. |
