Opus One...Great label recognition...fantastic bottle of wine. At a restaurant, it will cost you a lot more, but at a good liquor store, it should run right about that.

Try some Mad Dog 2020.... That should open her up a bit... No sense throwing that money away. Use the rest on the tank. Let her know how it is up front..... Tank comes first! All else second!

The most I have spent on wine was 75.00 for a gift. (other than a restaurant)
try these: • Clos du Bois Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon wine, $13 • Rodney Strong Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon wine, $15 • Rosemount Estate Shiraz wine, $11 If you really want to spend the money send me a bottle of this and I'll let you know how it was. 1997 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Napa Valley Wine Spectator (91 points) $99.00 By the way in 2000 I bought a case of this for 14.00 a bottle I just wish I had some left.

Oh, come on! Don't be spending money on girls. You can get them without spending that much of money. You need to listen to Tom Leykis instead of buying a $100 bottle of wine.

2 Buck Chuck! aka Charles Shaw wine.
Every Thanksgiving, my family does a blind taste test with about a half-dozen different wines. The prices range from over 100 bucks down to the 2 buck chuck. The last 2 years it has come in 2nd both times. Either we're horrible wine tasters, or the stuff is actually pretty good. Oh wait...you're trying to impress a girl..hehe. Maybe you should save this stuff for the 2nd date then.

Penfolds Shiraz. There are several different barrels of this fine Australian wine, I can't recall what one is the best. They are very good wines. You do not need to break the bank for a fine bottle of wine.

96 Cali cabs are primo good wines. There was a Chinese restaurant I used to go to a few years ago that had bought a LOT of some really, really good 96 cab. They had it on the menu for $23.... Needless to say it ran out relatively quickly.

Penfolds Bin 389 has intense flavor for about $26. Penfolds has a top of the line 'Grange' near $100, supposedly even more intense, but I haven't hit the lottery yet to try that one. (Australian Shiraz rocks)

If you want to impress her DO NOT get a bottle of Opus One. It shows that you're willing to spend money but perhaps do not know the finer less known names.
I'm a huge fan of Italian and Aussie wines. Get a Penfold Grange if you can find it for less than $100. If not get a Penfolds RWT. Very good. Wolf Blass Black Label is also a good bottle. Italians. If she liks the heavier bodied reds get a Super Tuscan. Perhaps, Ornallia, Sassicaia, if you can find them under $100 (Good Luck). I've also randomly picked super tuscans and they've turned out to be great bottles. Brunello di Multicinos are fairly good bottles but can be over priced. Matanzsas (SP?) Creek Merlot is a good bottle. One of my personal Favs is Pogio Rosso. Pogio Piannio (SP?) is also very good. They aren't that expensive yet, but are still around $75 depending where you look. It's more impressive to pick a bottle that she's never heard of and really like it than to over spend on a well known bottle.

Orchids, you are welcome. It is hard to go back to less intense wines after having something like the Penfolds Bin 389. Thank god my father-in-law likes it

Yeah Penfolds Grange could be one of the best bottles I've tried. I have one sitting in my apt, but I'm afraid to open it.
Also Their RWT is spectacular. I think it's about half the price. The last time I had it at a restaruant it was about $90. The Grange was more like $150.
