I also have 1 x 1.5" drain... I had to cut the overflow slots deeper to keep up with my ampmaster 3000. The tank is pretty loud with that pump moving that much water. If I could to it all over again, I'd use the ampmaster for a closed loop and run a smaller pump for the sump.

I have 4 of the maxi jet 1200's on a wave timer to switch the direction of the current... just more flow

Wow! Spectacular reef. Very nice aquascaping and colors! Is that a Leng Sy green cap hiding on the left side near the back?

Nah... I don't have the coveted Leng Sy cap but I have something very similar. Met him though when he came to look at the reef. The one on the back left is just the standard purple rim. The one in the middle is the japanese purple rim which closely resembles the Leng Sy. Can't say that it is though...

i have taken all the slots out of my overflow box. it is a smooth over flow and i think it will aid in keepign the water flow un ubstructed.

why not still put it on a closed loop. i was looking at a few setup where you dont have to dirll to put in a closed loop.

Wow... I haven't given an update on my tank in a while. It's been about 3 or so months since the last pictures. Here's a quick snapshot of how the tank looks now.

Wow, Garrick, the amount of growth is great! I'm hoping to have my 150 set up within a month, I'll be happy if it's half as nice.

Jonah, actually... those are the Hamilton 14K's. They're much easier to shoot pictures with. I've actually been running the Hamiltons for a couple months now.

Slo,

I have recently upgraded to the Hammies 14k SE...how are your growth rates? The first thing I have noticed is that my A. humilis browned up more than ever with them...everything else is fine..the humilis was always a brown color but only recently browned out as much as now...and new growths have stopped. It was near the far side so i moved it back towards the center...

Other corals seem fine...

I haven't had any problems with my Hamilton SE's... I'm using the lumenarc reflectors and the PFO HQI ballast. Nothing has browed out and actually, I'm getting better color on my steve elias stag... it's SOOOO blue! Growth seems to be good...

This tank is gorgeous. The only thing that detracts from it is the corsd you can see through the bank. A black background would be sooooooo nice. Then TOTM

Well, if you have that much growth from your 14K hammies, I guess I may have to get them again. Garrick, how do they look against the Phoenix bulbs? I haven't seen a Phoenix bulb in person.

Hugo,

I've never seen the Phoenix bulbs in person either. To tell you the truth... I've very torn between the Helios 20K's and the Hamilton 14K's. My problem is that I like the coloring of the 20K's and the growth is still good but I can't shoot a photo to save my life under that spectrum. It throws all natural color out the window. The Hamilton's are much easier to shoot photographs and again, the growth is good. So I'm in a predicament... =) I guess I just have to learn how to shoot under 20K lighting!

Are you open topped, or do you have a canopy? No problem with the name change BTW.

Hahaha... I felt really bad when I saw the reply pop up! Hector Hector Hector...

I'm open topped right now... actually, I'm pricing out a new tank. I'm moving shortly and it gives me a good reason to get a bigger tank. I'll build a canopy at that time... but it will still be open top =)

Garrick, I put a sheet in front of my lights. I am open topped, and the camera picks up the extra light that pours over the top of the tank. Oversaturation isn't an issue with my camera when I take pics of tanks with canopies.

Man, what size of tank are you stepping up to?
