My blue hippo that I've got for around 4-6 months now hides almost 24 hrs/day in my gold bird nest colony.

Typical behavior. They also lay on their sides and slip into the rocks. They can look sick or dead. They are not!!! give him time to adjust

Give it some time to become accustomed to your tank. I recently added a powder brown to my tank and it hid for almost a week before I finally got to see it swimming out in the open during the day it would swim around after lights out when my other fish were hiding. I think it was just getting used to it's surroundings now it is out all the time.
