Poknsnok's 240 build
After all the talking and planning I finally moved foward with the upgrade to a new 240 glass cages tank with a starfire front.. thanks to everyone who helped me move this beast!! my big butt in it to give it some scale
the stand and the durso's.. the stand is steel thats been powder coated. I spent Sunday cutting and waterproofing the plywood.. Im patterning my build after mflamb's build. patterning is my nice way of saying copying. .. tonight I cut the aluminum for the light rack and laid it all out. Ill wait til i design the hood before cutting the length of the aluminum to make sure its not too long.. my 55 with too many sps and the few remaining fish hang in there guys!! It wont be too long The tank will be primarily sps with some zoanthids and maybe ricordia. I plan on a SSB with a DSB refugium in an approximately 75 gallon sump I need to get... It will have 3x400 watt icecap ballasts and some supplemental actinics and be skimmed by my Deltec 701 thats now on my 55 housing my corals. can you say overskimming??... I hope to have the sps in the 240 by Jan 1 This build will be a reflection of all the great ideas and skills of the members of the TBRC (Tampa bay Reef Club). And many other reefers in town.. There are some very talented and caring people in the Tampa Bay area! Last edited by poknsnok; 10/02/2007 at 06:56 PM. |

Thanks for the corals they are doing fine and there are plenty of frags here waiting on you.

Joe - nice pic's . Man you're already ahead of me - you have your durso's built! Looks like those reflectors are ready to be plugged in and let the light shine. Good luck on your build.

lol, looking good Joe. I'm tagging along. Did you go with the 240 long (96X24X25) or the 240 tall (72X24X31)?

Laura, its the 72"x30"x25... I agree Greg, I tried to put the Dog in there but she would have none of that... .. Next step is getting a group together to lift tank on to the stand... I hope to get to Johns this week and get all the pumps and my controller

Got the tank on the stand and got most of the plumbing and closed loop done
simple return plumbing. the outlet on the left will be for a manifold that will feed the skimmer and reactors from the back.. I hope to water test the CL on thursday |

Doing water test already - Man you work fast! I need you to come my way for a bit - of course it took me forever to build the room and it should be down hill from that - NOT! Looking really good Joe!

nice build, looking great.
I like the way you labelled the pipes, with that many in a relatively small space, I can see it coming in handy later. Regards, Paul.

one thing on the whole trial and error methodology.....I find if you use unions, it makes life simpler when you come to rearrange the plumbing. Maybe a little more expensive....but its easier to rework by far.
Paul. PS...Love the dory picture. She ahs room to grow. I had the opposite problem with nemo and my 30g.... Paul.

Been a while since i added any pics so here goes
pic of the closed loop looping! covers i made for the overflows. the eggcrate is cut to snap aroung the return pipe. fits tight and doesnt shift when the water is pouring in pic of light rack and slides. They work like a charm and are , and here is the best part... cheap tank filled and salty, I think I may have enough flow... rock rack built to keep the rock higher and off the bottom. it will wrap around the overflow and angle towards the front and center of the tank... tomorrow Ill add some of the rock ive been cooking for a while now, Last edited by poknsnok; 11/12/2007 at 08:17 PM. |

Hey Joe,
Looking good, I love the egg crate/gutter covers anything that gets in there had to really work at it. The canopy with the light rack on looks great.

very very nice.
I'm looking at your light rack desing and must say i like it. Could you please be a little more specific in terms of materials and so forth. As well as some pics if possible. They will greatlly improve my future plans . Does the rack swing back for critter placement? Jus curious on why swing it forward if no sapce to play and place corals-correct me if i'm wrong pls. Thinking that perhaps i build one that moves upward for placement! I will be using some of your ideas for my 96 long. permanently subscribed to this thread. I'm selling my current 200 as a package prior to upgrade to my 4-500 and noticed that you are local (well sort off LOL) I'll attach my thread for reference to any reefers that may be interested. Thx for your time- looking forward to following this build. http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...readid=1249910 Last edited by gasman059; 11/15/2007 at 09:06 AM. |
