Question Bleaching Algae?

In my fuge i have a big clump of Chaeto. It's about the size of a softball. It has been growing nicely for about 3 months but until recently, 1/4 of the clump is turning white (dying off). Can anyone help me fix this problem? I notice that in the main tank, cyano is starting to show on a small area on the sandbed.

TIA

Is the white part out of water?

Is it being burnt by the bulb?

Do you have a lack of food for the algae?

IME when cheato goes sexual it does not turn white like other macro algaes but just gets stringy and sends string of chaeto everywhere. My guess would be it was not submerged fully in water or is being burned by a bulb,

I have some doing that also. Again, I'm having a small bloom of cyano at the same time. My guess is they're related. Maybe too many nutrients (NO3 and PO4) are the cause of both...

I am having trouble with bleaching Chaeto also, mine are bleaching I think mainly due to my nitrate level being too high, 60 to 70 - ish. I am doing water changes. I am also dousing iron to my water, but no noticeable effects yet.

I thought Chaeto feeds on NO3? How can high NO3 kill it?
