WATER SOFTENERS- Which brand to buy?

Anyone know anything about water softeners?
We need to replace our ancient culligan one due to rust getting in the wash.
Any recommendations/info/links would be appreciated!

We just bought one. Went with Waterboss. Got it for $450 I think. Brought our TDS from the>500s to 170's.

The problem it created however was clogging up my RO unit. It overloaded 2 prefilters. This was most likely due to the large sediment release during plumbing.
