Talking RO/DI Pumps to increase output

I'm running a RO/DI filter using well water after the water softener at home.
The output is way down from city water I think due to the decreased pressure.
Do those pumps for RO filters improve output and decrease efficiency all that much?
Wheres the best place to get an inexpensive one?
Thanks!

First off Brad, I'd recommend that you determine just what your water pressure is. You may or may not benefit from a booster pump.

But just for context, it's not unusual at all for folks on private wells to have low pressure.

Those booster pumps work well to increase production and increase efficiency of systems with pressure problems. Remember that the capacity of membranes is rated at a given temperature and pressure. Filmtec membranes for instance are rated when with conditions of 50 psi water pressure and 77 degrees F water.

The last thing you want to do is cut cornners on a RO unit. the Membranes can run as much as 125 dollars each and depending on how many stages your unit has it can add up. I have one I dont even use its new and It has three canisters on the bottom and three on top its pretty nice, im going to get rid of it. Id rather buy my water I think mine is rated at 50gallons per day. Good luck Try tidelineaquatics.net they are real good at such things and have excellent prices

You could try to contact RandalB here on RC. I bought a very nice RO/DI unit w/booster pump from him a couple months ago. He's from the Chicago area, and his prices seem to be very reasonable as well. HTH

Not to contradict someone who somehow managed to retire at age 32 (I want in on that!), but RO membranes can be had for significantly less than $125 - more like $35 or more. I think what you're talking about is entire RO systems, not just the membrane.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if anyone had every tried one and if it made much of a difference. They sure aren't cheap!
