Evel Knievel has died

No story to link to yet, but CNN is reporting that the legendary motorcycle stuntman died today.

It may be a blessing. From what I have read, he was in daily excruciating pain from all his past injuries.

He made it to 69, which counting he was not only jumping against the odds, but against medicine-as-it-was during the 50's and 60's, possibly gave him one of his problems.

Raise a glass for a guy who figured his odds and taught a lot of us that a calculated chance is worth taking, even if it's a crazy one...because it prepares you to take the ones you don't have time to calculate. I thought of him specifically when I decided to take to the ice the year I was starting to do any long walks with a cane. No need of it now. So thank you, Evel Kneivel, for making us recalculate the possible.

He had balls bigger than a dump truck. Sorry to see him go.

Let's see today's lightweights take a Harley an do the things Evil did with them.

I feel horribly "old" when I hear these kinds of things. I remember seeing him do his whacky stunts when I was just a wee lass

I remember many moons ago (kicking it in my jumbo bean bag) as a wide-eyed youngster glued to the tube with my parents while we watched the live broadcast of his attempted jump of the Snake River. Mom made some Jiffy Pop on the stove, and dad killed time during the commercials offering fatherly commentary on all the technical things that might go wrong. So much hype.... follwed by such an anti-climatic let down. Little did I know it was just the first of many more Tv let downs to come.

God speed to you Evel!

P.S. Geraldo Rivera if you are reading this I want the two hours of my life back from your special on Al Capone's vault.

Bigsky, do you need some Raid?
Evel passed ha?
Never watched any of his stunts so don't know what I missed , if anything. But sorry to hear it wasn't while doing what he enjoyed, jumping something or the other.

And now his family may have to pay a guy $100 million because Evel broke his arm with a baseball bat in 1977.

http://www.local6.com/news/14762134/detail.html

LOS ANGELES -- Of all the bones Evel Knievel broke over the years, the costliest may have been the left arm of a PR man by the name of Shelly Saltman.

Saltman won $12.75 million in damages against Knievel after the motorcycle daredevil attacked him with a baseball bat in 1977 in a rage over a book Saltman had written about the showman.

Yep, and that was thirty years ago! His family can't even mourn without someone trashing him.
