What brand of power head are you using? Powerheads do die occasionaly. There not terribly expensive, just replace. The powerheads your using are they for water circulation or return for a sump? I really don't know if they have a rated life expectancy.

I have had a MJ1200 tossed in my salt mixing tank for 2 years without a problem. The same MJ1200 hidden in the live rock of a display tank needed to be cleaned every few months, then it died. R

I think that as long as the powerhead is cleaned in order for it to run smoothly, then the pump should go on for years. I actually have a couple powerheads that cleaned only a few times in the past 4 years and they are still able to run...

I have had a maxi for about 3 years and only cleaned it once. Now I think about it I need to clean the return pump.
