for the price Deltec's are hard to beat... BK cost more than a grip and i have heard that H&S are not as good as Deltecs..

Interesting, I have read the exact opposite as far as construction and material used.

Another thing, we always compare our day old new equipment to our old, broken in, fine tuned equipment and say the new one doesn't seem to work as well.

But in my original comment, I thought you were talking about construction.

I have used a lot of skimmer pumps, but honestly speaking, the eheim with the mesh impeller and the two pumps that in BM 250 are the most quiet and the best...must better than sedra skimmer pump, red sea turbo....BUT I haven't use DRAGON PUMP YET.

I'd have to agree with the orca/dart nw skimmer. for 1299 (i believe) that thing is a monster. Just look at the skimmer loc built as well... he was breaking it in with a freshly made batch of salt water and it was still producing skimmate.

chaffey,

yes, the cone, under the cup on the h&s and bk is clear, where the deltec is black plastic.
and i misunderstood, for the price, i would choose a 3 pump h&s over a 2 pump deltec or 1 pump bk.
my opinion

well the major issue here is that I try to cut down on electric 3 x eheim pump would kill the deal, I rather stay with 1 dragon pump...

I love the eheim with the mesh impeller, not modify its actually made it to stick on the impeller....it came with my old BM250, do you guys know where I can get some of those eheim pumps ?

I have an H&S, with a single eheim pump. I chose it over the Deltec simply because of the numerous posts about the materials being thicker and stronger.

It is built like a tank, very strong. I was not disappointed at all.

Wow, I heard those are super expensive and super good. Better than BK/Deltec/H&S/ everything.

hahahaha

I have owned the following -

H&S 1x1260
H&S 2x1260
H&S 3x1260
Deltec AP702
BK300 Ext

The H&S and BK are close but the edge goes to the H&S simply because it draws much more air and has more water capacity. They are all great skimmers. But in order, IME, when comparing comparable models - its definitely BK, then H&S, then Deltec. I think the BK400 is more comparable to the 3x1260 - and I think the BK would win. Of course its a LOT more money.

That said, like F18 - I'm talking with KZ at the moment to try one out. I have a custom H&S and I want to compare the two.

edit - i actually didn't own the ap702, it was moonpod's old one but i got to use it on my 150 for a couple months. nice skimmer. i hate the black flange tho, someone mentioned the clear neck of bk & h&s and trust me, it makes a huge difference. you have to take the lid off of a deltec and stick your head under the stand to adjust water level. i also don't care for their ball valve. but once dialed in - great skimmer.

dont u guys think that some of these skimmers are overkill?
I used to run 2 skimmers on my system... and seriously it was overkill...
Filter socks, carbon, fuge and lots of live rock... easier than a huge skimmer...
I dont think steve tyree even uses skimmers...

1 vs 2 skimmers NO difference in coral, in fact with the second skimmer the corals didnt look as bright as if there wasnt enough nutrients in the water...

I use an ev 180 on about 300 gals total and paid about 300 bucks for it about 5 yrs ago.
