Snail attempted suicide??

I was out at Rod's a few days ago and got stocked up again with some snails. Everybody's looking good, but today I came home from work and found one of the Black Foot Snails on the carpet next to the tank. I picked him up and he was dry as a bone so, so I am guessing he was out of the water for a while. He didn't smell bad so I dropped him back in the tank to see what would happen. A few minutes later I went back to the tank and he was already cursing around looking like nothing had happened. What a nut!

First time I have ever seen a snail crawl out of the tank like that. Is this common? Could he be unhappy with one of my water parameters??

depends on the type of snail. some snails are intertidal snails and crawl from tide pool to tide pool, and sometimes get lost. LOL. im sure the water is fine. its amazing really, ive found snails dry as a bone and after a minute in the tank they are open and crawling along.

I have at least 10 snail shells behind my tank.

The outside of the shell is dry..but the trap door keeps enough water inside the shell to keep the snail from drying out until the next "tide". He'd be waiting a long time on that carpet....
