FOWL- Fish Only With Live Rock. generally people keep fish that would not be suitable for a "reef tank", such as predatory fish like groupers, triggers, puffers, and the like. as far as what equipment you need, with most fish only tanks there will be a very high fish or bio-load. therefore a good protien skimmer, refugium with macro, and or additional biological filtration are all good things to include in these kinds of set-up's.
also frequent water changes can be helpfull in keeping nitrates, and other parameters in check. there are some awsome species tanks that can be done in this manner, including interesting specimins like stone, angler, or frog fish.

i do know the copperbands are a difficult fish to keep and generally have poor survival rating. if your heart is set on a butterfly you may want to consider one with a little better track record like the yellow long nose, Auriga Butterflyfish, raccoon, or Heniochus Butterflyfish are all much better choices as far as ease of care.
if you do attempt a copperband do some serious research on the specific requirements needed for keeping them. this is a good place to start. copperband also check out the compatability chart to see what other tankmates are suitable. compatability chart sorry i'am not familiar with the othe species you mentioned. hope this helps.

I have had a copperbanded for a month now. He is very picky the only two things that he eats so far are mysis shrimp and plankton both frozen food, no dry food or flakes. He ate and still eating a lot of worms from the LR rocks and some anemones and he pecks at the bivalve(oyster) . I read someone success by feeding different foods while the fish was on quarantine.
Good luck if you get one. |
