HELP with carpet anemone

I bought a Carpet anemone last weekend that is about 4" in diameter when fully open.

I've been feeding it Mysis shrimp every other day and it eats it right away.

Last night, I notice that it's color started to lighten up and brown stuff came out of its mouth, which I assume to be bleaching?

The carpet is lit under 150W HQI metal halides and in the sandbed, and my tank is 20" tall which puts the anemone about 26" away from the light.

Does anyone know what I can do or is this normal for the carpet as it is getting accustomed to its new tank?

Thanks in advance for your replies and assistance.

How old is the tank? and are all other spec in check? ca,alk, nitrate etc? It may just be getting comfortable keep feeding as long as it accepts it. I like to feed sm amounts a few times a day if you have time. Also soak the food in some vitia chem to add some nutrients that it may be lacking! Good luck and post a pic of the lill bugger!

Hi Charlie,

The tank is well established, over 2 years running and all params are in check.

The tank is mainly a LPS/softies tank.

I will try to feed it again tonight but last night, it was shriveled up so I didn't try to feed it in case I would agitate it.

Thanks!

Sounds like you are trying to over feed it... Give it a few days to settle in and he will be fine... What size tank do you have him in? I am selling mine because he has gotten so big. About 14" across when open.... Watch out for other fish also, If he gets hungry he will eat them... Mine has caught and eaten 4 fish from my tank in 2 months... 2 dartfish, 1 shrimp, and the latest fatalety was my 5 inch FoxFace Lo..... I tried to get him out but the anemone closed up on him in seconds..... wow what a supper....
