Wellsophylia(sp) Brain
Is it necessary to target feed these? I just tried to for the first time and no luck. food eventually floated away. I was feeding it mysis shrimp by the way. What are ur experiences? Does anyone have picks of there's?

As other brain corals Wellso feeds at night. I would check on it an hour after your lights go out to see if its tentacles are out. However, if it does not extend you may want to turn off your pump(s) and place a piece of Mysis soaked in Selcon (or something similar) on it to entice to feed.

Wiat till you see tentacles... then direct feed it. But make sure you feed it small pieces at first.... otherwise it may regurgitate the food.

It is not necessary to feed your open brain! If it is injured, or you just want it to grow faster, then target feed it as mentioned above. Feed it twice a week in the morning before lights on.
I don't target feed my welsophyllia. He's been in my tank for 6 or 7 years and rarely target fed. If he is hungry or just feeling happy, he'll prop up his feeder tentacles during the day and catch some mysis or bloodworms that may fall in them. If it helps you to sleep at night, then feed him. Otherwise don't worry about it. BTW, you can feed him when he looks like this:

I agree with Smo. I have had 3 of them for about 4-5 years and never have fed them. When ever I wipe the glass or clean the tank they open up and say ahhhhhhhhh. Mine have grown well with no feedings

Cool i just got him on tuesday night. This morning when i turned on the light he was all puffed up i thought something had went wrong but when i got closer i noticed that its tenticles were out. I might just feedhim some mysis tomorrow just to see what happens. How big are u guys brains? Mine is about 6" long.

We feed our brains krill once a week. You should see them by the next day.

I think krill have a better (if it could smell better) smell. It seems like they cause a better feeding response.

I feed krill also, usually just one large one for my open brain. It's about 6".
