Coralife RODI Units
Hey everyone,
long time lurker , first post here... and thanks ahead for any input. I did some searching on good R/O units as I am tired of lugging buckets back and forth from my LFS. I saw the links to some of the sponsors here and the units do look solid for a good price. However, having trouble searching the sitea few days ago I impulse bought the Coralife 50 GPD 4 stage RO/DI unit without a pump. I spent 2 hours the other day reading and reading but no one said anything about these particular units really. I know its good to support sponsors and all , but are the Coralife units really that bad??? Compared to the ones offered here? Just curious if I should even bother opening it and return it immediately, or will it work for me. Right now, I have a 75gal display with 20 gal sump and 29 gallon Fuge going and really I just use about 20 gallons a week for water changes and top off. I will be getting into some Softies and Inverts probably in the next 6 months though... water is water and if I get 99.9 % does it really matter how i get there??? Just curious... I wouldn't mind hearing some stories, both GOOD AND BAD.... thanks so much people. I've learned a ton from you all... cheers, Steviem |

yeah... i kinda figured as much. I know there are probably better ones for the buck, but it seems pretty straightforward, relatively cheap for replacement parts, and my guess is you won't have much difficulty finding them either. Still looking for any horror stories to surface... leaks? problems with interchagable parts? anyone have anything like that with this unit?

The Coralife units are very low quality. There are lots of reports of poor quality finsihed water, system leaks and other things if you search here on RC.
For the same money you can do much better sticking with some of the vendors that deal exclusively in water treatment and not lighting like Coralife does. An RO unit is not and RO unit, it couldn't be further from the truth. Cheap is just that. With RO and RO/DI you get what you pay for so do it right the first time or you will spend much more upgrading a poorly designed system to make it work well. |
