"I can't get the thingie back on the skimmer..."

After coming home from a two week vacation in Hawaii:

"Uhhh why are your corals melting? And where are the fish?"

^Heater malfunction

Also during a vacation, from my pet sitter who was actually living at my house while I was gone. Keep in mind the July weather. "Um, the AC stopped working and the temperature is getting kind of high... What can I do?"

I should probably quit the summer vacations.

While in Costa Rica for 10 days on a science trip, I was able to communicate through email still. My parents sent me this nice one. "However, Henry (my foxface) is kind of swimming weird... Like on his side..." Panicked through the rest of the trip.

seeing your little boy walking around with a cup of tap water, and then hearing your tank stand door close.

staying at a friends lake house 3 hours away...
10 am I'm still sound asleep bc it was summer. Mom comes in the room screaming and starts shaking me. and yells "Wake up! That was the fire department and your fishtank just caught the house on fire." Lucky no one was hurt (including the dogs who were right below it) but I did loose everything and had to start over. insurance paid for all of it, livestock and all. It was actually replacement cost so all the colonies that had grown I got more for. I was worried for a while that I wasn't going to be able to set up another tank after that. After 4 months with no tank I got my 120 tech tank.
Heres a pic of the fire

While on vacation for a week, my girlfriend called.

"Your pump thingie is making this aweful grinding sound and it's just spitting out bubbles into the tank. It's starting to look like foamy milk, and I think your coral beauty is [ticked]!"

ATO malfunctioned and sump ran dry. Try explaining how to fix it to your girlfriend who knows NOTHING about your tank. I just had to dump a few gallons of RO/DI in and crossed my fingers!

Wife: How did you pay for that?

Also: Why is it so quiet in the tank room? (because the pump had stopped working)
