Don't run your main pump on it..................if it blows the circuit breaker when you're not home (& it always happens when you're not home), you won't have a return pump until you reset the breaker.

I also use an American DJ power strip...................it has a 15 amp breaker on it...

I used 2 of them. I also hook the circulation pump to one and the return pump to the other so that if something is wrong and the circuit strip, one of them still operational....

Its amazing I happened on this thread..last night my ozone reactor sprung a leak and the power strip that I was using for the ph monitor and ozonizer got a constant flow of water...for once something bad happened when I was HOME !! I heard this popping and smoke came spewing out of my cabinet!!.. the power strip was melted and destroyed..do you know if the American DJ will stop current for any water contact?
and from this point on surge protector all the way!!

i was trying to read up on it... it seems that the american dj jas a cuircut breaker, 15a... but i don't think it suppresses spikes...

i think the water thing needs a GFCI? but i think the american dj think shoudl have tripped... unless the breaker was in salt water then nothing will stop the electricity... gfci is usually in the wall so away from any chance of being under water... so it will cut out safely when there is too much draw? or a current through the ground?

I bought a gfci adapter for the wall..but it kept tripping and i didnt want to take a chance in it tripping when i wasent home...so i pulled it out...God whats the lessor of 2 evils?....Hopefully the american dj will trip when it comes in contact w/water..
thanks faded1004 for letting me jump in...

np harley... did you mount the american dj on the floor? you shoudl mount it high up... why worry about it getting wet?

i do agree, gfci is good to have. may be you can try to run 2 gfci adapters and split the load?

man, you need to be safe! make the hobby fun not dangerous...

so i guess most don't really think about surge? i am think i am just going to run one on my monitoring stuff... and my tunzes... all others don't really need it i think...

i am thinking about picking up the belkin "conceal" power strip... it can handle 4000joule spikes... and it also hides all the power cords inside of it... and makes everythign look clean... i found a few on ebay for cheap...

Both APC and Tripp Lite make some nice strips with equipment warranties.

I use Back-Up power supplies for both of my tanks. Most have a "Battery Back-up w/surge" on one side and surge only on the other. Not a LOT of batter back-up but they aren't expensive anymore and you get a LOT of bang for your buck.

ACIII, ACJr, DC-8 and Lunersims, pumps do not need to be on surge protectors

I voted "no", but I do have an American DJ power strip (this is just on off switches and has no power conditioning or surge protection) and I do use a GFCI which is a fancy fuse and also not a surge protector. what are you thinking when you asked about a "surge protector"?

i thought may be clean up the power going to probes, and protect my expensive things? thought it might help out... i am sure it is not as impoertant as home theater signals and also computer stuff... just thought it might be better?

i get the impression that back up protection is more important then surge... which i do agree... just wondering if anyone took the surge point of view as decently important?
