Installing GFCI but don't want downstream protection

Hi all - I think this is the best forum to post this on. I've posted this same question at one of the Garden Web sites, but I figured many here would probably know the answer as well.

I want to install a GFCI outlet for my fish tank, but don't want downstream protection. Can I just take the black, white, and ground wires at the outlet I am replacing, splice them together (black to black, and white to white, of course :-) ), then connect jumpers from those splices which I then attach to the "line" and ground terminals of the GFCI outlet?

Is this a valid installation?

Yes, just wire to the line side only and not use the load side.
