Hey folks I usually go up north to Marienville to our camp to fish, but are there any streams local to pittsburgh worth fishing at?
Let me know, Rob I am in West Mifflin for those that do not know.

Pine creek is nice and has tons of places to fish. You can start around North Park and follow it all the way to the Allegheny. Well stocked and easy access in numerous places.

You could try Loyallhanna Creek up off Rt 30. Real nice Delayed harvest area that the local clubs put some nice fish in also.
Probably hour drive but well worth it when they are biting Chuck |

Rob,
Loyallhanna is being stocked Sometime this week along with Bull Creek. Bull Creek is right off the Tarentum exit on 28. Kinda small creek but a few nice holes. Get off 28 north on to Bull Creek Rd. go about 2 miles and you will see an autobody shop on the right, park at the end of their lot by the bridge. Fish upstream about 200 yards or so and there are a few holes. Chuck |

Nice fish, got a pic?
I could always go fishing with you, and just take my regular tackle. Is it very expensive to get started with a fly pole? Rob

you all need to come with me to bedford area or when I go up north....yea usually stocked trout arent with much size accept when they feel they need to stock a breeder now an then, believe me I know I worked for renoylds dale fish culture station for 6months as in internship.....its the natives or the catch and release rivers you want to fish. Spring Creek up in state college/bellfonte area is nice, they have a place called fly fishermans paradise....ever since a pepsi truck leaked into that river they reccomended people not keep the trout so well everything is usually over 15 inches.

Is this the area ??
Regulation There are special regulations on Spring Creek but only on a small section. The one-mile stretch in Fisherman's Paradise, from the hatchery to near the Stackhouse School Pistol Range, is under Heritage Trout regulations. Under those rules you can only fish with artificial flies. Spinning and casting equipment are prohibited. In addition, you can not keep any trout here, but fishing is permitted year-round. Because the remainder of the stream is not an Approved Trout Water you can also fish it year-round but not in the park area where the monsters live.

The Neshannock is a great trout stream. It is big and deep enough to have holdovers. You can catch some really big trout as well as some really nice small mouths. The Neshannock runs thru Volant in Lawrence County.

Cool Spring and ...
Near the Neshannock is Cool Spring just outside of Mercer and up route 62 is the beautiful Little Sandy Creek. South, in addition to Dunbar, are several nice streams, including Laurel Hill and the Yough near Confluence.
For some heritage fly fishing, head out near Carlisle and fish Falling Springs, the Letort, Yellow Breeches, Big Spring, Green Spring, etc. There aren't any rubber fish on the Letort. |
