Whatz this??

About 1 year ago, this thing started growing on the underside of one of the rocks in my tank. I have a larger one growing on the opposite side of the tank.



Here's another shot. Sorry they are a little blurry but you can see the shape of the growth



I wondering if this might be the start a new coral or no such luck

That is a sponge, what kind I have no idea from that pic. I have those in a couple of my tanks, its hard to tell unless you get a real close up and half the time you still cannot tell.

I was a afraid it might be some type of nuisance anemone.
Are there any sponges that I should be cautious of?

yeah i have the same stuff growing on a piece of my live rock. it looks exactly like cotton but when you look closer it has tiny pore looking things.

I also have the exact same sponge. It has not been a nuisance for me.

they usually grow on the underside of the LR. I do have a lot too.

Virtually the underside of every rock in my tank is covered in sponges and tunicates. Its a good sign that things are as they should be.
