Stargrass available - DE - $20
I have two colonies of stargrass, a true seagrass, Halophila engelmanni available. They are about eight leaf sets with several growing tips coming off the main rhizome. Blade sets are quarter to half dollar in size. Needs all the usual seagrass things like good lighting and an enriched, deep sandbed.. mine are doing well in 4" of mud/aragonite with some fertilization. Below is one of the better pictures I have of some of the grass from a few months ago.. for more pictures and thoughts on the species hit my red house and go marine. Does not go sexual.
Asking $20 per colony with Priority included. Have paypal. Please PM or email slardizabal at comcast dot net. >Sarah

Hi Paul.. yep, the stargrass are the low-growing greens in the photo above. There are six to eight leaves per set or plant and the plants are all connected on a rhizome like this:

Cool looking plants. What type of lighting are you using for them?

Height is variable.. about 1-2" stalks, sometimes they grow shorter based on stress levels in the plants or your lighting. I have them under 6700K flavor PCs.. 96W over 12" height and a 3" substrate. You can always hit my red house (my website) to see lots more pictures and such.

Will these grow in any kind of substrate( coarse as well as fine)? Do any fish bother them? DO they reproduce and spread?

They will do best in a deep - 4" min enriched substrate.. old DSBs do well with them and other seagrasses. Some fish find them very tasty.. one person I sent them to had trouble with rabbitfish and I imagine a tang might nibble on them and find them tasty. Not sure though.
Do they reproduce? Only vegetatively so far in my tank. I have had flowers in the tank but no seed sets as far as I can tell. Look at my website with the progression of the tank and you can see how much they spread.. from a tiny planting back in March to taking over a ten gallon's floor space in late May. If anyone was interested in them.. all the colonies I had available are spoken for now. Thanks everyone for contacting me. If you have more questions or are interested in seagrass/macros you can find me in the Macroalgae and Marine plants forum. >Sarah

Ok.. there will be more available starting in late June/early July. If you would like to be put on a list to be contacted when they are available again please just shoot me a PM and let me know.
For those who asked - these are not the endangered plants endemic to the IRL, Halophila johnsonni. Illegal to collect those. Also illegal to collect seagrasses of any kind without a permit, except that if they're washed up on shore, as these were, they're a free for all. Again, thanks everyone! If you have any q's about seagrass and such in aquariums please come to the Macro / Plant forum here on RC. >Sarah

Hey Paul
I had some of that stuff hitch hike on a piece of rock. It was eventually knocked out by my cherub angel. I always wondered what it was. Thanks! billpa |

Its back! I have four sets of colonies of various sizes that need new homes.. at least ten plants with three growing rhizomes included in each set. Asking $25 for a set with Priority shipping included, these are all larger portions than I've offered before, in great health, a few colonies have flower structures. I would really like to get these out Mon/Tues of this coming week. Please PM or email me.. Paypal is easiest from my point of view but we can work out others.
I also have four small turtlegrass plants - Thalassia testudinum - that need new homes. Add them for $8 or have them shipped to you w/o stargrass for $13. Thank you! >Sarah

Unfortunately no. I have lost my main colonies of this plant due to dinoflagellates. There are others here on RC who are growing this species now, and might be willing to part with some if you post a want-to-buy thread in the other forum. I think there are two others doing the same right now. I hope to have the species back in about a month.
