Hey Grim I've got one last question for you.

After reading some related threads I've decided to go with the aquatinics 5 bulb fixture instead. The included splashguard, active cooling and the fact that I can just sit it directly on my acrylic top instead of buying hangers or legs sealed the deal.

But which bulb do I do away with? If all I get is 5 bulbs what's the new lineup? Do I need both daylight bulbs or can I get away with just one.

blue plus
aquablue
GE 6500k daylight/sun pro
aquablue
blue plus

or

blue plus
aquablue
GE/sun pro
GE/sun pro
blue plus

or maybe

blue plus
GE/sun pro
aquablue
GE/sun pro
blue plus

which bulb would you take out of the mix? What would be the new lineup?

Thanks, I think I'm finally getting to the end of the "what lights and what bulbs" journey. You've been a great help.

For 4 lamps try this

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Aquablue
Blue plus

for 6 try

Blue Plus
75/25
UVL Super Actinic
Blue Plus
ATI Pro Color
Blue Plus

Play with the positions so you can have a blue plus and Super Actinic as a dusk dawn pair.

I have a Fauna Marin Ultra Solaris mounted in the canopy. I am going to ditch their crappy reflectors and put some aquactinics ones in.

this thread really needs to be cleaned up. most of these questions should be asked in the Q&A thread. Can we get a new one started for PAR readings only and keep these questions out of here please. I'm very curious to how the hagen T5HO bulbs are. I have the T8 LifeGlo bulb I believe and i love it's color.

Anyone with a PAR meter have a chance to get some numbers on the Hagen bulbs?

I needed to replace an Aqua Blue+ on my system with an actinic bulb to get the color balance I wanted and I found some Hagens at my LFS. I picked up a Marine Glo to replace the Giesemann, it's a nice looking bulb. The blue is a little lighter than my Giesemann Actinic + bulbs and looks a little brighter. It did exactly what I was looking for it to do which is cut down the yellowish hue I had towards the top of the rock work in the tank caused by my GE 6500. Now the tank has a very natural looking white hue when all of the lamps are on. I'm hoping the Hagens have some good numbers since my LFS is pretty reasonable on the price at around $21 each.

Grim -
Everyone told me to come see you! I have a standard 55g with some softies and maybe some light coral planned. I am upgrading to the Aquactinics TX5 unit and want to get a good spread of bulbs that looks good and will allow me to grow some light coral...nothing major. Mostly zoos, shrooms, rics, etc...maybe some harder coral down the road.

I dont know all the brand names, so could you be specific as to which 5 bulbs you think would be best? I'll be ordering them online so names would totally rock!

Thanks in advance, I know its a pain, but I've read a million threads and know enough to just go to the source and ask the pro!!

Thanks a bunch!

Everyone, please give Grim a break! If you read through the thread, you will see the same bulb combos being repeated over and over again!

Grim, I think it is time to post "THE SHEET!". I will try and finish some stuff up this week.

No but I suspect they will be even more intense than the 54 watt lamps.

No readings with reflectors. The Pro Color had a little lower PAR than a blue plus.

Grim,
The shots of the pure actinic type bulbs (purple, primarily 420nm as opposed the blue primarily 450-460nm bulbs) look blue in these shots in the above thread. Do they appear blue in your fixture or is that just an issue with white balance in the camera you are using? These bulbs look purple to the eye in my fixture, powered either by Triad or Icecap ballasts (slightly whiter on the Icecap than the standard T5 ballast), very different from the photos in that thread.

Yeah, they all look pretty much violet. The Sfigoli and Super Actinic look a bit blue but not like the others. Hard to get an accurate reading because of the UV output of actinics. The cameras read UV as blue.
