what kind of eel can I safely keep in my tank?
I have a 55 gallon, 3 fish (wrasse, blenny, chromis), loets of liferock and some kenyas and xenias.
I love any kind of eel, but drawback is the carnivorous part... What kind of eel can I keep safely? Maybe the garden eel? Thanks. |

I have a zebra moray that only eats shrimp, crabs and urchins. Everything else is safe. Their main problem is being so big they knock over things.

I have a small snowflake right now, it did eat my pepermint shrimp though. Besides that he has left everything else alone.

you can keep a snowflake eel. BUT! they will grow very fast. mine was 4" when i got it 6 month ago. now is 12". i always feed her with clams and at first i was feeding maybe half a clam. now she it 2 clams and will still be looking for more. also she chace my shrimps but they are kind of big for her. but in a couple of month if i dont take her out it wont be hard to eat the shrimp

I had a snowflake eel for 3 years in my reef. As long as he had food then he didnt wreck the place. Just poked his head out when he was hungry.

In addition to the snowflakes, I've read that spaghetti eels are reef-safe as well. They're supposed to very talented escape artists, though. No personal experience here, just what I've read.
