Eels ???

Can you keep more then one eel in an aquarium ?
I have a 180 gal If so which ones ?

Sure you can, depending on which you get and how many good caves you have made. How many you can put in there depends on what species you want and what else you plan on keeping. We need more information.

The two am intrested in are the gymnothorax kidako and a black moray( I think is either gymnothorax permistus or gymnothorax moringa)In the tank - miniata,hypoplectrus indigo,canthigaster valentini(puffer) 3 yellow tail dams,a hawk fish,sweetlips and a 10 " snowflake moray(which I have sold)

I have gymnothorax tile and Echidna nebulosa together with no problems and was thinking of adding a Gymnomuraena zebra

I had a zebra moray in my old 125 remarkable eel , like a teddy bear

I keep my zebra moray with a Brazilian dragon moray. I've had the zebra for many years, got the dragon within the last year. They get along fine, though I have to target feed the zebra. The dragon, while two thirds the size of the zebra, is a much more aggressive eater.

I have seen many different species of eel kept together. However, you should to try to keep them around the same size and avoid extremely aggressive species which may be likely to prey on other eels.

I don't know much about the two species you have selected. If you will read the excellent moray eels chapter in Reef Fishes Volume 1 (by Scott Michael) you should find good information. If he says the eel is aggressive, believe it! This book has never steered me wrong. The only minor disagreement I have with it is that sometimes I think the tank size recommendations are too small. a convenient source of decent species information is wetwebmedia.com. they are usually right on about temperament, hardiness and adult size.

my two eels are in a 5 foot long 120 gallon tank. it has plenty of room for both, along with three other fish (trigger, puffer and small grouper). I will be breaking the 120 down soon, as these fish will be going into a 210.

right now the 120 has pretty minimal filtration, just a Remora Pro skimmer and a BakPak, a HOT refugium and a whole lot of live rock. the pump for my sump failed a while ago, and since I am in the (slow!) process of replacing this tank, I just added HOB filtration. I also have about 175-200 lbs live rock. The tank is bare bottom, and just has two long NO fluorescent bulbs. I do water changes weekly, at least five gallons a week. pH 8.0-8.3, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, nitrates around 20-30 (I struggle to get them lower).

this tank has been set up since 2002, and the zebra moray has been in it the whole time (and in another tank before that). I had a major disease outbreak in 2005, and all my fish (which I had for 3-7 years at the time) died, except the zebra moray.

the 210 will be a better system. it is a RR AGA with Euroreef skimmer in the sump. it will get all the live rock from the 120 plus another 100 lbs or so that I have cured in a tub. it will have a shallow sand bed. lighting is an orbit fixture, 72", 6 x 96-watt PCs.

I have purchased a Blackline moray(gymnothorax saxicola)It is much more active then the Snowflake.Several pieces of pvc pipe,aplastic bowl with a whole drilled,and places to hide in the rock,everyone is getting along so far.(4 days)
