BIG!!! The Clown Tang is not only a sizeable fish, but a great long distance swimmer and requires very high oxygen in order to thrive. I would recommend 240gal and up.

These need to be able to hold their own or have plenty of crevices to hide because the Clown Tang is quite aggressive.

tank mates
blonde naso 8 inches
red sea sailfin 9 inches
2 yellow tangs 6 inches
clown tang 7 inches
more fish that are not tangs so he doesn't bother them

It is very aggressive towards the tangs

Clown Tang

200 Gallon Tank 96" L x 24" W x 20" H

Tankmates:
Red Sea Sailfin Tang - 5"
Blue Tang - 4"
Potters Angel - 3.5"
Redspotted Blenny - 4"

There are more fish but the ones listed are the only ones it is aggressive towards. The fish has been in the tank for about a year now and it only chases the Red Spotted Blenny. The Sailfin Tang stands it's ground and usually they just go their separate ways after a little quarrel. Hopefully that quarrel doesn't get worse with their increase in size. We'll see.

Sorry, no pics on my work computer. They are very difficult to get good pictures of since they never stop moving.

I had a bad experience with a clown tang. Disease magnet and infector. Getting one was the worst decision I have made in reefing.

Wow! That is a BIG mistake. Too many fish that need a lot of room in too small a tank.

I just sold my clown tang yesterday. Great fish in my 120!!! he was a bit on the aggresive side to any tankmates smaller than he. The only plus is that there where only three other fish in my set up. I will admit a 48" 120 was on the small side.

What happens when the fish is a 1/4 of the length of the tank.....?

Not calling the RCPD Tang Unit or anything but he doesn't need to be in that tank.

No offense, but these are famous last words. Hobbyist experience over the past twenty years has indicated that these fish REQUIRE very large tanks with massive water flow. I would bet there will be problems in the future, and maybe near future. Sorry, just my opinion.

Very active!

I can't imagine a Clown Tang in anything less than a 6' tank, and I could see that being too small eventually.

My tank is 8' long and the fish is about 5" long and it is all over the tank.

IME small clown tangs starve VERY easily in captivity.

I think it's fine, with no other tangs, or other rock picking fish for that matter...ie no competition.

Years ago, when I was stupid, well that hasn't actually changed, I had one in a 55.

He was GREAT until he was just dead one day.

I read up. I knew what people said. I knew better because I was going to take really good care of him.

Stupid.

No way bub...sailfins get too big for a 90g. A PBT is already pushing it IMHO.
