Marc not to add anymore headaches but did you check your anode rod in your water heater? By the sound of your water heater I'm quite sure it needs to be replaced($40-$50). You are right about the copper making contact with galvanized(we use brass instead). By the two metals touching each other it causes electrolysis which will speed up pipe deterioration.

BTW: It's looking great so far!

John, I don't know.... are you talking about that tube that you drop into the water heater? If so, no I did not. Hmmm.

Okay, did I mention how much I hate sheetrocking?!

Done.

Of course, I had to get around the plumbing. A special cut indeed.

Metal edges.... need to put one in that upper corner.

I drilled the holes where the overflow boxes will be, but haven't cut them out completely.

Time to go tape and bed. Then go to bed.

Yep that is what I was refering to. Here is a couple of links for those not aware of what I'm talking about.
http://www.waterheaterrescue.com/pag...er-anodes.html

They show it listed as a magnesium rod which is a type of anode rod and it's location in this link.
http://popularmechanics.com/home_imp...water_heaters/

You might have already changed it and I missed it in your post anyway.... I would rather clean windows than do drywall. I can sand and sand till it looks smooth as glass, but when the paint goes on it looks a tide rolling in.lol

Maybe I should replace that rod. Or at least pull out mine and see what shape it is in.

Here's the final three pictures for this morning.

All the tape and bedding is done.

Later this afternoon, it'll be bone dry and ready for paint. I'm not going to worry about sanding it smooth, nor texturing. That is too messy and simply not needed in this application.

You can see the holes that are cut out for the overflow drains.

We will have to have a DFWMAS meeting at my home again, once the tank is worthy.

It's looking great Marc, you are accomplishing more in a few days than I could in a week or two.

Good work marc... I'll be following this thread to see your progress!

I would have to make about a hundred trips to the hardware store to get that much work done. I always get the wrong stuff the first 99 times.

Looking great Marc.

I am curious though, how you plan on handling the extreme heat we get down here? I would think with the tank being in the garage you are really going to be battling temperature problems all Summer long.

Do you have this conquered as well already?

Quote:
Inside the garage, I'm going to build two interior walls, and insulate them from the heat of summer / cold of winter. It'll be my little fish room. I do have to move the water heater, but will have access to water and a drain. That allows me to put an RO/DI unit in the same room as the tank. I'll keep my other RO/DI unit in the utility room as we like to make our own drinking water and it is handy.

hopefully save Marc some time re-explaining his plan, this quote is on the first page of the thread where he explains his full plan.

btw looking great Marc

You guys can't count.

The thread started on the 20th, and today's the 24th. I just got the paint, so I'm off to get things ready for tomorrow. I also rented a U-haul truck to make the tank move easier, hopefully.
