Introducing a new percula to another...

Well I got home this morning from work and found my little clown fish stuck to the intake of a powerhead I had sitting in the tank. I did notice he seemed a little "drunk" last night (he kept blindly swimming into things, including the other clown), but I think I just woke him up from sleeping. He was a bit of a runt at 2 years old (as far as I can tell) and only about an inch long.

Anyway, I have another percula that came with him (bought them as a pair) that I would like to get another for. My question is this:

Is there anything I can do to kind of help ease the two into becoming friends? I've heard most clowns don't like new faces.

I may just have to try to see if the clown I have now is aggressive toward another percula and then try to troubleshoot, but I thought that there may be some things I can do to help ease things along.

Thanks!

Brandon

How long did you have your "old fish" ... our signature implies you have a new tank yet you indicate your fish was two yrs old. You definitely don't want to add new fish to a tank where the old fish may have just died of a disease. Fish don't get drunk.

I wouldn't assume ages....its hard to tell how old a clown really is. This is because if they were a less dominate WC clown in the wild, they could be 5 or more years old just not as big. Do you know if the clown was WC or TR?

And you are trying to add a third one? or did the clown die that got stuck in the power head and you are trying to find the one that didn't die a new friend?

Another thing, is it a true perc or a false perc? They are both the easiest clowns to pair with each other.

Kevin: I had him in QT for about 6 weeks or so while I finished my tank. Fish don't get drunk, but they do sleep and I came in late yesterday from being out of town. The guy I got him from said he had had him 1.5 years. I think he bought the fish "new", if you will.

Chunks:

Not completely assuming ages... its an educated guess.

The guy I got him from had him for 1.5 years and I got him about 2 months ago.

I am trying to find the one that didn't die a new friend.

I'm pretty sure its a true perc. Theres a good amount of black outlining the white.

Whats WC and TR?

Thanks!

Brandon

NeveSSL, WC = Wild Caught, TR = Tank Raised.

As for introducing a new one. I introduced a 2nd perc before successfully. Assuming your tank is cycled and your params are good, you might be able to get one that looks like the other one (going a bit smaller won't hurt either). Good luck.

Awesome... thanks!

I'll just try to get a small one and see what happens.

Hope all goes well Brandon!, and either go with one a lot smaller or a lot bigger. I would stay away from getting one relatively the same size.
