Pumps on, or off?

Mine show a much more active feeding response with the pumps on.. I think its the food moving around.

Mine reacts well to mysis squirt from a turkey baster. That way you can simulate movement while target feeding.

I feed with the pumps on. I have two Vortech pumps that stay on during feeding.

Since that post, they both have started to eat frozen mysis. Currently they are doing well.

I am curious though on what they will look like as they mature. I have been told that they start as females. What are peoples experience with the potters?

I should mention that I use the turkey baster with pumps off.

IIRC, and if what I've read was correct, most macropharangydon and Halichoeres wrasses can be born either male or female, with the majority being female. Females can change into males, but males can not change into females.

Cyclops are too small for the wrasse, go to your LFS and get some Mysis shrimp, most arrivals eat this within a day!

good luck!
Yes... but wouldn't a serpent star learn not to hunt if every fish got away?

Probably not, but what does that have to do with the fish escaping from something crawling on top of it?

The star will soon learn not to let the fish escape.

lol, sorry but Im not buying that.

The star isnt holding the fish down, telling it, its going to eat it. Its trying to eat it, and the fish KNOWS that, therefore Mr. Fish is going to flight like all get out and escape as soon as it feels a ray from the star touch it....

here is one in the bag after I got home..

Here in one swimming around the tank. Sorry, the tank is a littel cloudy...
I just got one of these last week as well. I'm not as lucky to have it eating anything yet. He has been hunting the rocks all day every day though. Hopefully he will soon be interested in something. I have about 6 different foods I feed the tank.

Awsome find!

I picked up another Melagris species (male? I think) from my work, it is BEAUTIFUL and fat and healthy looking, but not eatting anything, not brine, or mysis...

so... I have, after 2 weeks of QT put it in the Main display which is currently fish free for a little while.

He is swimming around fine, without any hesitation to pick at the rock.

Im hoping the main tanks pod population will sustain him untill he trys fish food.

All,

This was sold to me as a female Macropharyngodon Meleagris. However, I am a little suspect as to its identity. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It is certainly not a female M. meleagris. As Shawn said,it doesn't look like any Macropharyngodon species.

All,

Last Tuesday (Nov. 28th.) I got a Leopard Wrasse. (This time I am certain it is a Leopard Wrasse, unlike the last one I was sold, which can be found in a picture above.) After acclimating the fish I took it and placed it in the quarantine tank, where it buried itself in the sand. Well, after nearly a week the fish has not come out at all. I am getting worried about the fish. Could the fish have parished in the sand? Should I go looking for it to see if it is still alive? (I have been restraining myself from doing this as it may had stress to the fish. However, I do believe that a week is an awefully long time for the fish to be burried.) Any suggestions and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I had a one leopard wrasse that would bury himself for weeks at a time, but he was well established in the tank and a voracious eater.I have also had newly acquired leopards that buried themselves and never surfaced again. You could check for ammonia and nitites-an indication that something died.If you have a clean up crew in the QT tank, they may have disposed of the body in a matter of hours. It's really a personal call at this point.I would wait another week or so if you can,but if you must know if he is still in there,be very carefull in removing the sand to find him.Newly acquired leopards tend to be weak and disoriented from transport and handling,so if he does surface, getting him to eat will be another challenge.

Definitely check the ammonia. That'll tell you if he's still alive or not.

I have a 65 gallon tank and a pair of mandarins in the tank. Will there be too much food competition? I have a 20 gallon fuge' and a bunch of pods and things in the macro in the display...?

I have a leopard wrasse and a blue spotted leopard wrasse both doing great . I have had them for months along with a couple percula clowns, fire fish, couple blennies, chevron tang, all freindly fish.
I was wondering if I could add a couple fairy or flasher wrasses to the mix? I am looking to add some color any suggestions or choices I should look into or stay away from?

I have a 110g reef tank with 150 lbs of live rock and a green mandarin in it. I also have a sand bed of 4".

My tank is running since 1 year.

Would there be enough food for a leopard wrasse???

Give me your opinion...

Thanks!!

you must have pods or your mandarin would not survive so yes you would do fine getting a leopard wrasse.
I would add pods to your refugium once in awhile to make sure there are plenty. O nce you can see them on glass and such you will be fine.
You can feed mysis frozen shrimp to the wrasse to.
