Here's my favorite shot of my vlamingi that Concept3 took at the NJRC meeting at my house last July:

hehe, not in a 58 gallon! LOL.
This guy is about 14" and they grow to over 2 feet. I have a local aquarium that already accepted the donation of him when he reaches 18". I have a 300g tank, 96"L x 24"W x 30"T, and when he starts to have to do "K turns" to turn around, off to a much larger tank he goes.. It will be sad for sure, this fish REALLY has personality, and it is actually the only fish in my 300 that eats from my fingers..

This Desjardinii, aka "The Fin", is the hardiest, greediest and longest lived fish I've kept and is now more than ten years old.

Great Desjardinii.
I really like that fish, too bad it so closely resembles the shape of my black tang, and my tank is too small for the two of them. Motivation to go big I guess. Last edited by luvtolean; 03/28/2006 at 08:11 PM. |

Awesome Convict Tang. I don't seem to see quite as many of these in most tanks and can't figure out why, as I think they are really cool.

Good stuff guys. I will not be putting a Vlamingi in my 58 gallon
don't worry. I have a Bluethroat Trigger and a medium sized Yellow Tang and lots of smaller fish so I am maxed right now. This thread is getting me thinking that I should go 120 inches instead of 96. It is all academic at this point anyway. |

The fish is quarantined and goes through hypo then the MT has an ozonizer.

I may be playing with fire but I dont run a uv, or do hypo, or qt my tangs. I just concentrate on good stable water quality and temp, 1-2 hour aclamation(?) and a good varied diet. I have not lost one yet, One ick pop up when I got the PBT but he fought it off himself.

Great choice on skipping the Vlamangi. They are one of the largest tangs out there. I got mine from a guy that had him in a 90 and he was about 3-4 inches long, in about 3 months he has more than doubled in size, which kind of tells me he was happy to get out of the 90. JMO
