My pair of Crosshatch triggers cost me £480 ($990) and I've just bought a pair of Sargassum triggers for £350 ($720). I love my triggers though
Most expensive singular fish was my 6'' clown trigger at £120 ($240) - I miss him - you could tickle his belly for ages! Things are a little more pricey this side of the pond EDIT: Should've said that these are, or at least were, in my reef tank. |

Most expensive fish I've bought: Male crosshatch trigger $229. Thought I would never pay that much for a fish, but he's quite the looker.

I've had fish ranging up to $100 when I had a FOWLR setup. After a big crash, I've gone to a small reef. My most expensive now is a $50 4 line wrasse.

I don't wanna think about it, especially for the ones that died... My Brazilian Dragon moray was $200, a pretty spectacular eel that is hale and hearty.

My watanabei angel pair, but I got them for a steal at $150 and my LFS. So I guess if you divide that in half I paid $75 each, so I guess my most expensive individual fish was my Scott's fairy wrasse at $80. But wait, I got him at 20% off...

Ssavader, that's actually a C. pylei... Very nice nonetheless, though. Personally I think they even beat the lineatus in looks.

My most expensive fish is black bar drum Equetus iwamotoi They are not available to the hobby regularly because they are rare and usually found below 600 ft. I collected 2 in early 2000. I have seen them for sale from a collectors list twice, once for $600 and just recently a two incher for $375
One thing Nanoreefwanabe, expensive and rare are not the same, that price for the angel is inflated, don't know why but this past summer they were selling in FL in LFS for $600, less for smaller ones. The only fish that are that expenseve are fish that too difficult to collect, peppermint angels and masked angel are 2 examples that come to mind. Both of them are found a very unsafe diving depths so it is very hard and expensive to collect. Both are not hard to find in right habitat and depth, but who is going to risk thier life for an aqarium fish. The mask angel is fairly common and found shallow in the NW chain, but it is illegal to collect there. Another example of rare are some of the hybrid angels, which also comand a high price, but are one of a kind. If they were discovered by a scientist they would be captured, photograghed and then killed/preserved. In that case why shouldn't someone give it a home for the rest of it's life? As far as leaving it alone most hybrids are not fertile so reproduction is not a viable reason for not collecting it. |

Philter,
Are you sure you're talking about Conspiculatus Angels because $600 doesn't sound right even if they were selling them @ wholesale prices. What store is selling them this cheap and where is it located? The one on liveaquaria for $3600 is overpriced but this is one fish that gets more expensive the smaller they are and 3" specimans are next to impossible to obtain so the price is conducive to rarity. For the record Peppermint and Personatus Angels can go for up to $10,000 which puts them in a totally different league. |

The ones were in Ft Lauderdale area, and they were all bigger, there are several stores that import fish directly from southern australia. They had the blue devil marine betta (the really cool bright blue with blue spots) at the same time for $300 each, he had 7. Plus some really wierd box and cow fish that I've only seen in photos, they were in the $300-400 per pair. He offered weedy sea dragons for $475 each on special order. He had clarions 14 months ago for $1600 each, said they were imported as passers into Atlanta Georgia and he went and picked them up himself.
Last I checked (in Sept) he was moving closer to the beach. I don't know the new name, only that it is different. I havn't seen it yet, but if I get there I'll get a name. |

"philter4" I do appreciate your comments clearing up the whole rare terminology. I see a lot of people bashing when somebody says they have a rare fish. They assume that we are picking the ocean clean of a species when the fact of the matter is that in this hobby rare usually means there are few available for trade and that is most likely a result of what you said about collecting these fish.
