Too much light for mushrooms and ricordia??

I have 2 250watt MH lights.

I have noticed that the mouths of my mushrooms are sometimes enlarged and swelled.

The mushrooms also do not stay large all day. Maybe about 4 hours.

The ricordia seem ok, but they are not growing.

I just added and moved some rock around, I now have some overhangs that are blocking some light.

I am not sure if these areas would now be too dim!

Anyone else have 205watt MH's???

Mushrooms are pretty adaptive. I have dual 250w 10k MH plus T5 Actinics running 12 hours a day, and my yuma and other schrooms are fine. The yuma was a frag (was in another tank with same lighting type) 4 months ago and is now full size and has produced 2 other baby's. Also the yuma is almost 3 quarters to the top of my 120gal.

If you just got the scrooms, were they in a tank with the same lighting? If they were in a weaker lit tank you might need to acclimate them longer by placing them closer to the bottom.

I've got 2x400W 10K MH on my 90g and loads of shrooms. The yumas are multiplying quickly, the horribly bleached Florida rics I bought from the scratch & dent bin at the LFS are colouring up (they're in partial shade), and there are spotted, striped and red shrooms near the bottom that look happy as can be. As llamart said, shrooms are adaptive. At first I worried that mine would all turn brown, but now that they're all settled in they're showing more colour than ever.

If they're not showing signs of stress, I wouldn't worry. If you see shrooms that look stressed or are bleaching, you could try putting some under the overhangs -- you'll know if the area is too dim, you'll see the shrooms stretching waaaay out to try and get more light.

I also have 250 watters. I have shrooms that are taking over one part of the tank. The light does not bother them at all. When I first added the lights, they did not look all that great, but wow did they come back.

maybe they were just not use to it, they will adjust, and from what I have experienced they will THRIVE under uber lights. I have mine under 400w MH 20k XM M59 lumenarc. Most are about 2-4 inches under the water surface and have really colored up. Good luck

I have found that ricordia that I place on a more vertical
plane really seem to thrive better than those that are strictly
horizontal no matter how deep.

Anyone else?

I think they may "adjust" their "wrinkles" to shade portions
of themselves as they desire.
Just a theory
