Painting Inside of Canopy
Has anygone ever painted the inside of a wood canopy? We have a black canopy, yes it was sold to us that way at an LFS, and we want to paint the inside a lighter color to prep for warmer lighting, such as T5s or Metal Halides.
Will any marine grade paint do, or should I be looking for something in particular? Any other painting advice that may not be obvious? Thanks

I've always used flat white indoor paint. I've had hoods like this for four years now withought any sign of degredation. I usually just do about three coats.

use the Marine Paint, or you could do as i did on one of my DIY's and have 1/16" mirror, cut and if needed, drilled. it cost about $25.00 for 3 pcs. for a 55G hood/canopy. Good luck whichever way you choose, and have a great weekend!

If I were doing it I would use an Acrylic latex. I would also use the acrylic primer, unless you wanted to use oilbase, which is ok too. Of course first give it a light sanding you do not need to go overboard with the sanding, just enough to give the primer something to adhere to.
I have used sherwin-williams acrylic paints and they are great. Be sure not to use the kitchen and bath paint though, it has mildew additives. Yes they do make a marine paint if you wanted to go that route too. hth and good luck!

Two coats Acrylic latex white primer, light sanding between and after coats, then two coats of Polyacrylic sealer, light sanding between coats. But I go overboard, so...
