Glazed or unglazed?
Just picked up some scrap tiles the other day and was just wondering if anyone has seen any preference for clownfish (or other dermersal spawning species, for that matter) to use either the unglazed or glazed surface. So far, I've only used terracotta tiles, or the unglazed undersurface of ceramic tiles.....Since they will often spawn on glass, is there any difference one way or another?

Watch out with the glazes as they can leach heavy metals. MOst clowns prefer the rough side anyway.

My gut feeling is that they would prefer the unglazed surface - more like natural rock - but just wondering if any observations or experiments have been done....

My friend uses a rough ceramic tile, and he uses the decorative side. It is a compatible color to his display tank, and since it is rough on the face, the clownfish had no trouble spawning on it.
Rather clever of him, I think. |

Hi,
Never used tiles, but some of my couples prefers to spawn in the smooth surface of the glass then in the clay pots or live rocks. Chico |
