I had DirecTV for years, may be 12 or 15. Cancel it and went with Verizon FIOS when they dug up the neighborhood. They ruined my lawn, I had to get even.

My only complaint with DirecTV was that when there's bad weather, big storm, etc. service would go out. Other than that it was fine.

We've had it for years, but will be canceling as soon as our current contract obligation runs out. We just got aggravated with the customer service--they'll do everything to get you signed up, but once you're in a contract you'll be on your own. It's like with the phone companies where they give new customers the great deals but don't do much to take care of their existing ones.
They used to have a customer retention number that you could direct dial, but have since required a pin number for it. Now, just call the regular DirecTV number and when the recorded message asks you what you want to do, say cancel service. That typically sends you directly over to customer retention where you get someone that speaks english whose job it is to keep you happy with DTV in almost any legal way possible. Want a great deal? Try that. I call every few years when I get better offers from Dish or my cable company and they have always surpassed just matching the offer. YMMV... but it wouldn't hurt to try.

The more adamant you are about leaving the better offers they bring out usually.
