BC - until very recently there was no rule period. Until they implemented their "drug policy" it was completely acceptable. I'm sorry if you refuse to see that but that doesn't change the fact. I can't force you to be right.

So by saying there were no rules you assume that it was a rule to use steroids? That makes no sense at all.

Let's talk about the flip side of money---lawsuits.

Everybody's legal department will advise them not to undertake an accusation against an individual *which has criminal charges connected with it*---because if you don't have very, very good documentation and proof, and it falls apart, you can get sued. Or as my brother the lawyer once told me---you can SUE over just about anything; winning...maybe not. But a lawsuit being slugged out in the courts is not the sort of thing most CEOs and Commissioners want to get involved in. They hire corporate suits to fill those posts, people with their head in the business world, where "ignoring your legal department's advice means 'fool' " and "when the thing goes wrong, you're out there all alone and naked." Suits like cover, they like conformity, they like not rocking the boat, and they like chain-of-command and following-the-procedures. Anathema? Giving up one shred of corporate privilege. THe big sports organizations, NFL, NBA, MLB, all of them, are all quasi-trusts permitted by the fact Congress looks the other way, and the people that run them are dedicated to maintaining this special status as sacred cows, which means NOT attracting frequent Congressional attention to the fact they don't play by the same rules as everybody else running businesses and disposing of lives and careers. So, NO, the heads of these various organizations don't want to get into the arena of laws, accusations, lawsuits, Congressional attention, etc. The fact they got it is spillage from Balco, and how fast did everybody point toward Balco? Real fast. "Look over there. Don't look at us. We're against it. But we don't enforce laws. We have rules...well, sort of guidelines..."
It's corporate culture meets fear of regulation and having somebody's fancy lawyer start blowing the top off what's been a nicely covered simmering pot for years.

Here's a question...

Do you think Bonds would've topped Aaron's record without the steroids?

food for thought

All this really makes you appreciate just how good Aaron was though... 755 no help

Of course roids affected his game in a positive way, he was allready a good hitter with his hand eye coordination being great but he did not have the power as a slugger hitter, but when steroids became popular he began taking them and look how many home runs he started to hit later on in his career when he was on the roids. I just wish his god son would have not played on astro turf for as long as he did because if he had not he would have the record right now and iam pretty sure of that.
