Cutest Dog Contest

I need some help here. I am entering Kalvin in a "Cutest Dog Contest". I need to write a short essay of up to 75 words about why he inspires me and should be selected to win this Contest. Here's what I came up with:

"Kalvin was very young when he first got in his special customized dog box on the back of my Harley, but he took to riding very quickly. Nose in the air, ears flapping in the wind, he was born to ride!
He is the number one racing dog in our Jack Russell Terrier club this year. He races circles around our pool and races all over the house, jumping over furniture, like they were hurdles! "

It was really tough coming up w/only 75 words for this!

I need help choosing a pic for the contest:

or

Judging criteria
All eligible entries will be judged on the following criteria: 1) Inspiration shown in essay content (25%); 2) Appearance of dog (25%); 3) Writing ability, including proper grammar and punctuation (25%); and 4) Photo quality and composition (25%).

Hey Jeni, if your only choice is those 2 pics i would take the first one. Do you have others? you need to get one where he is showing off the sad puppy eyes or begging( i think people like those type of pics). That second pic seems a little overexposed to me, the first one is a little out of focus but i like the composition better. What camera are you using for the pics?

Olympus 5060 Out of focus huh? yeah, I think I Photochopped the 2nd one a lil too much. I have some really cute sad ones, but he was a puppy. Here are all the good pics I have of him:

Do you think what I wrote is good?

I like it, it is very few words to use and come up with something that describes your pet. the pic seems a little out of focus to me but then again im not a professional photographer and i dont know all the technical terms and stuff. Just have a love for pics. I really like that picture that you linked to in the magazine though that seems perfect to me. You also have a very nice camera, im not very experienced with digital cameras yet(had stuck to my old slr canon) so how do you like that camera compared to the offerings from canon?

I was actually reccomended to buy that camera by Bob Fenner, for my underwater photography. I needed something no too expensive that would take a decent housing. It's OK, I guess. Can't seem to take clear pics of my corals, like zoa polyps. Makes me crazy!

You think this one's better? He's not smiling...

That is a better picture, but i dont think it would work for the cutest dog thing. By when do you have to submit it? if you still have a couple days i would go crazy with the camera, fill the whole memory card.

I tried to get him into a commercial--almost a shoe-in. He was supposed to go up to a piece of hot dog, turn his nose up at it (or just walk away) & fall over dead. I taught him all that in 3 days, filmed it & sent it in. They went with a different company.

You think I should just use the bike pic instead for the contest? Maybe I can get a better one w/o the stuff in the background.

Cruising down the road on my Harley Davidson with Kalvin the “Krazydog” on the back--nose in the air, ears flapping in the wind, never fails to capture the attention of people we pass. Folks are always asking if he enjoys the ride. Just look at his face! He says he's "Born to be Wild"!

I've got this pic, but it's pretty bad:

The greatest would be if you could get someone to take your pic while you are cruising on the bike w him. I have never seem a dog on a bike before.

can you crop Kalvin from the last pic? He's got his leg casually rested on the blue gear box, his look is telling his audience "What??? If I have to explain - you wouldn't understand!!!"

Yeah, that would be really great but I'm leaving on a dive vacation on the deadline date, in one week.

Katie and I love the pics. What contest are you entering?

Our first dog won best caught in the act in Chicagoland Tails a few years ago.

good luck

Jeni

What about a picture l of Kalvin racing over the agility course? I think you sent me a link to one recently. He has a lot of personality and it does come through in his pictures.

All the pics i have of him racing are of him muzzled. I am going to race him tomorrow. I'll see if I can get some of him going over the hurdles. Would have to change what I wrote though. I think a pic of him on the bike would be better.
